Question

The purpose of this assignment is to evaluate your ability to develop a comprehensive implementation proposal for an information system that uses a systems approach. The proposal should be targeted at a potential 'sponsor' organisation that will need to be convinced of the appropriateness and effectiveness of the proposed new system.

Choose an information system (e.g., ERP systems, CRM systems, SCM Systems, Management Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, Executive Information Systems, Enterprise Portals, Data Warehouse & Data Mining Applications, Enterprise Collaboration Systems, Knowledge Management Systems, and so on) that you have studied in this unit. Alternatively, you may wish to combine features of several systems.

Your assignment should describe the steps of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) discussed in Topic 4 of the subject. The proposed system must address an identifiable problem/opportunity that exists in the sponsor organisation and relate to particular aspects of the organisation's overall strategic directions. It is important that you select the features of your system carefully and justify your selection. Do not just use (be critical of the use of) the standard features of a commercially available software package. For the purposes of this assignment, try to keep the system that you are proposing to a manageable size.

Tesco will be able to control these functions and will definitely gain a competitive advantage.

During the information system implementation process, the seven steps mentioned by Haag, Baltzan and Philips (2008) have been followed. It helped in determining the right trajectory to implement the SCM information system. The estimated cost for the entire project is GBP 100,000 to be implemented in the UK first. Overall, the project proposal sheds light on the application of the system development life cycle and understanding of the implementation of the SCM information system.

Introduction:

The development of an information system is a very prevalent scenario within the companies. None of the organisation will imagine their business operations without updated and the advanced information system in various departments (Markgraf 2016). Supply chain management is one of the functions where companies have a huge requirement of a concrete information system (Harrison, Hoek & Skipworth 2014). Supply chain management (SCM) is a most significant part of entire operations management with respect to effective handling of various activities like procuring the raw material, dispatching the final items, logistics, inventory management, the flow of goods and services and so on. Overall, in order to gain competitive advantage, cost-effectiveness, quickness in business operations and superior quality, these are some of the major advantages of supply chain management. In order to gain these advantages, integration between the IT system and supply chain management is essential (Chaffey 2011). The use of IT will bring sustainable changes within supply chain management activities and will enhance the efficiency of an organisation (Li et al. 2006). In the current report, the information system for supply chain management has been proposed, and steps for the same have been suggested on the basis of the Systems Development Life Cycle.  The SCM information system has been proposed based on the analysis of the operational requirement of Tesco.
