Introduction

The major aim of this paper is to conduct a property portfolio analysis of one of the luxury and budget hotels of Accor. In this paper, I will compare a budget hotel Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour with Ibis Budget Wentworthville on basis of factors listed below:

• Price
• Revenue streams
• Housekeeping functions
• Food and Beverage outlets
• Other supplementary services offered by the brands

Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour is a five-star hotel in Sydney, adjacent to International Convention Centre. A five-star hotel is a hotel that represents luxury and standard quality across all its operations. Guests visiting a five-star hotel have a wide range of options of facilities and services to choose from (Foris 2014). Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour has 590 rooms, three bars, a restaurant, outdoor pool and a club lounge (Accor Hotels 2017). Ibis budget Wentworthville is a one-star hotel that offers accommodation facilities at low rates. The one-star hotel includes the properties that offer budget-friendly facilities but do not compromise with security or hygiene of the guests (Foris 2014). The property (Ibis budget Wentworthville) provides budget- friendly facilities without compromising on the quality and security aspects (Trivago 2017).

Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour offers a wide range of facilities from accommodation, dinning and bars along with arrangements for hosting weddings, meetings and other events. This hotel is one of the most preferred hotels among the customers. As indicated by the hotel reviews by customers, the guests like the lean rooms, comfortable beds, professional and friendly staff, excellent fitness centre and the pool and the well- being segment that offers the leisure services to the customers. In addition, the hotel also has three bars, a club lounge, restaurants and the outdoor pools (Accor Hotels 2016). Being a budget hotel, Ibis budget Wentworthville provides the basic facilities such as, internet/ Wi-Fi, parking, reduced mobility room, snack and beverage machines, shower and emergency information in the rooms, double beds and television and the air conditioned rooms. The hotel received the average ratings on the review websites by the customers. According to some of the customers, the housekeeping functions and the maintenance in the hotel should be improved. However, the guests appreciated the presence of friendly and professional staff along with the management and reception (Trip Advisor 2017). There is a significant difference in the number of facilities provided by both the hotels based on the fact that Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour is a luxury hotel and Ibis budget Wentworthville is a budget hotel.
