Integrating art into every day lessons can help in the meaningful comprehension of the literature content as well as cultural aspects for everyday learners (Cornett, 2015). Through the integration of art based tools the education experience of the students can be enhanced and they gain cognitive skills to solve problems creatively (Marshall, 2016). Early learners often need motivation, self-discovery and multidimensional skills to increase their competencies. As per Ewing et al. (2015), integrative learning stimulates students to become more receptive and socially as well as culturally aware learners. Through the course of this review, the relevance of integrating visual performing arts to the academic subjects is studied in the context of the elementary grade at the K-5 grade level. This review assess varied standards defined by the teaching standards and recommend strategies to integrate visual and performing arts in context of academic subjects.

'Standard 1- VA: Pr1.1.5a: Combine ideas to generate an innovative idea for art-making' (NAFMEa, 2014, p.1)

  • Music

'Standard 1- MU: Cr1.1.5a: Improvise rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic ideas, and explain connection to specific purpose and context (such as social, cultural, and historical) (NAFMEb, 2014, p.1)

  • Dance

'Standard 1-DA: Cr1.1.5: Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work'. (NCAS, 2014, p.2).

  • Theatre

'Standard 1- TH: Cr.1.1.5: a. Identify physical qualities that might reveal a character's inner traits in the imagined world of a drama/theatre work.' (NAFMEc, 2014, p.1).
