Solution

Globalisation and technology advancement have been the power factors to shape language and communication over the years (Petersen & Aakerberg 2016). Though modes of communication have experienced drastic shifts, the oral and written aspects remain the same. Communication is considered as the adhesive bounding countries, business entities, academics and families. Effective communication instills a sense of leadership among individuals as the fluency and expression of their elocution impacts the thought process and actions of their followers (Miller 1996). However, communication is also a source of problems arising from an individual's failure to understand the message is being conveyed, failure of agreement and inaction. In this essay, two areas of communication – one occurring within organisations and another with children are discussed.

Communication within Organisations

Organisations are built through communicative processes among its associates. Communication is the principal component of organizing (Saetre et al. 2007). It is considered as organizational, as it occurs in a structured arena and integrates business functions and interpretation of associates involved.  Communication within organization relies on the point that numerous individuals in an organized environment communicate, interact and share information among them. It allows employees to effectively convey information and generate signs of motivation. Due to the competitive global market, companies emphasise the need for good communication to combine different performances to attain a common goal. Organisational communication is defined as a process in which a combination of verbal and non-verbal signals is used to induce the actions of people (Almutairi, Alhaddad & Alqahtani 2015). It is collective behaviour to achieve individual and collective goals.

As companies have expanded globally, organizational performance is subject to cross-cultural interaction problems. Culture is a set of knowledge, attitude, perceptions and values, whereas effective communication is an interchange of information that nurtures relationships and offer meaningful results. This creates challenges for managers as they hold diverse perceptions and differs in their interpretations and responsiveness to strategic issues and tasks. Hence, managers have to inculcate cross-cultural communication competency to resolve performance-related issues (Matveev & Nelson 2004).
