Solution
1. How might the analogy of an iceberg be used to reflect your understanding of the value of exploring communication, more deeply?
The analogy of an iceberg is pertinent to the concept of communication and the underlying principles of it. Communication between two individuals is based on a number of precepts and factors based both in the social paradigm, both intrinsic and extrinsic (Jamieson, Kahan & Scheufele, 2017). This approach details the fact that a person's behaviour are analogous to the tip of the iceberg, i.e. the part which is visible to everyone and is tangible. However, apart from this tip, there is a major portion regarding an individual which is hidden (much like an iceberg) and pertains to the internal aspect of an individual's culture (Hall, 1976). The analogy is useful in depicting exploration of communication in a deep manner as this unforeseen portion of an individual's persona is ingrained into him and impacts his communication as well, further highlighting the interdependence of both these factors on each other. Therefore, in accordance with the analogy, interpersonal communication needs to be explored in depth with respect to a person's culture as well, as this enables better understanding of the essence of the conversation and its tenets (Barrett, Lindquist & Gendron, 2007).

2. Kaye (2010; or 2013; or 2014) argues that it is important to adopt 'an adult communication management model' in relation to communication competence. Use the ideas within the Matryoushka Doll Analogy to provide a short outline of his model, and indicate how your own understanding of communication links to those ideas?
The idea propounded by Kaye regarding communication as a model is that it is multidimensional concept based on different perspectives. The innermost model pertains to intrapersonal communication (communication with self), the second one focuses on interpersonal communication (communication with others), third refers to communication within the paradigm of an organized system (a workplace, for example) and lastly, the fourth level pertains to utilization of appropriate models for the circumstance at hand (Kaye, 2010). This model is viable as in terms of adult communication owing to the fact that there are separate instances and situations every adult needs to deal with at separate junctures in his or her life based on different external factors. As per me, a model such as the Matryoushka framework allows an individual to learn about and utilize different communication techniques at different instances in terms of the requirements inherent to the situation, which enables efficient exchange of information without leaving room for error. This makes communication more effective and is conducive to the free flow of information.
