Solution

Organisational Behaviour

1. Studies report that heredity has a strong influence on an individual's personality. What are the implications of this in organisational settings?

Personality is a set of characteristics or traits that reflect in one's cognitive, affective and behavioural states. Personality is based on many factors. Heredity plays a major role in defining one's characteristics. Personality gets affected by environmental influence and heredity. ((UK), Nov 2013)
Personality traits and emotions are predictors of behaviour. Heredity does influence a lot of personality traits. Of course, trait theorists recognise that all traits are not equally powerful.
Research in recent years has expanded to include matching people to organisations as well as jobs.

The five-factor model is an organising framework for the study of personality types. The five factors represent the five basic dimensions of personality:

i)  Extraversion: the tendency to be outgoing, assertive, active and excitement seeking.
ii)  Agreeableness (Likeability): the degree to which an individual is kind, gentle, trusting, trustworthy and warm.
iii) Conscientiousness (conformity, dependability): achievement and dependability.
iv) Neuroticism (Emotional Stability): is also known as emotional adjustment i.e. tendency to be anxious, fearful, depressed and moody.
