Question

Writing Task

The Exploratory Essay is designed to help students explore a topic that they are interested in writing about for the Research Paper. The Research Paper, in turn is designed to help both the writer and the reader learn something valuable about a chosen topic which is in the some way controversial, nad about the nature of research and discovery. However, as opposed to the Research Paper in which the writer typically will assume a detached and objective stance, this Exploratory Essay allows you to relate the evolution of your own thinking about a topic as you first start with your own ideas and then describe your inquiry process as you begin to examine sources and others’ views.

Solution

Today, illegal immigration is one of the most commonly observed phenomenon worldwide.  There are various motives and governing rules across different countries for the same. It is a situation in which foreigners try to migrate across country borders without proper permission and documents, resulting in the violation of the destination country's laws of immigration (Aranda and Menjivar). Today, about 40 percent of immigrants are presents in the developing countries and 60 percent are present in the developed countries (Hanson). Of the developed countries, about 21% percent of these immigrants are found in the US, about 32 percent are found in Europe and the rest are found in other developed countries (Aranda and Menjivar). In this report an attempt has been made to explain the cases, impacts, effects and the rules governing illegal immigration. Before delving into the case of illegal immigration, the benefits of legally immigrating to a host nation is also highlighted.

Having a legal permission to stay in a country is the right thing to do by a person as it ensures that he abides by the immigration laws of a country. If a person has a legal status within a country, then he would enjoy certain privileges. He can be assured that he would not be deported from the country in which he stays (Carey and Branton). Also, it means that he can legally work within that country in which he is. He can also travel in and out of the country in which he resides. The taxation for a legal immigrant is in line with the citizens of that country. They also enjoy various state owned insurances and securities, which varies from country to country. Not only the legal immigrant but also the host nation is benefited when immigrants move in legally into a country. The nation gets additional tax payers in addition to some of the brightest brains that get a chance to work and hence contribute to the development and prosperity of the country (Hanson).

There are various factors which cause illegal immigration. The most common factor which causes illegal immigration is to grab a better financial opportunity and a better quality of life in the destination country. High wage job is the prime motivation for the immigrants to enter the developed countries. However, the discrimination against the citizens of other countries is so high that they end up doing petty jobs to survive. Other motivating factors include poverty, family reunification and chain immigration among others. In addition to this, a tyrant and unjust government can also force people to migrate to various parts of the world illegally. Some of the best examples for this particular case are that of Iraq and Syria. Some socio-political mishaps may also force people to leave their home country and migrate to a better and less risky nation. For instance, political unrest, famine breakout and utter poverty can be some of the reasons that contribute to this kind of illegal; immigration. Amongst all the illegal immigrants, the majority of them, about 11 million of them are present in the United States of America (Hopkins) and they constitute about 3.5 percent of the population there (Hanson). They include those who entered the country's border without proper documents and permissions and also those who stay there beyond the expiry date of their visas. Also, about 5 percent of the labor market in the US consists of undocumented workers. According to a study, these people provide an output of almost $510 billion in a year in the US and a total removal of them could result in a loss of more than $5 trillion over a span of 10 years for this country (Carey and Branton).  These illegal immigrants generally move from developing countries to developed ones. They generally use fake data and certificates in order to get a legal work permit in the migrating country. In addition, every year, a large number of people fall prey to different agents who take hefty amounts of money from these people in order to provide them with a fake identity. They lure people into this trap by promising to provide good jobs, but once migrated the documents are seized and the people are made to do petty jobs. On being caught, these people end up in jail in the absence of proper documents (Carey and Branton). However, in spite of all these efforts, the agents dupe the innocent immigrants due to which the immigrants either land up in jail or are deported back to their home country.
