Introduction

Harrods is a retail chain of stores established in London. They specialise in fashion and designer wear, food, accessories and luxury gifts for men and women. Founded in 1849, the brand has seen many ups and downs over the years. After many financial and people difficulties, the company was bought over by Qatar Holdings in 2010 and had been performing well since then. After the acquisition, Qatar Holdings brought about various changes in the organisation to retain talent and to better the overall performance. In this report, an analysis has been made with respect to the various human resource issues at Harrods. This analysis is based on Organisational Behaviour and HRM-related theories. Based on this analysis, recommendations to overcome these issues have been made.

About organization values

The five core values of Harrods are:

  • Innovation
  • Sensation
  • British
  • Luxury
  • Service

To adhere to these core values, it is essential that the values percolate to each and every individual in the organization. For this to happen, each employee has to be made to feel important. This will, in turn, create an atmosphere of trust and pride. It is noteworthy that Harrods has brought under its values almost every essential dimension of business. And it can also be seen here that every element of their core values essentially stems from the capabilities of their employees.
